Garrett has been a leader in the turbocharger industry for decades. Some of the fastest stock cars in the world have featured Garrett turbochargers and no matter what type of racing you do, the odds are good that you’ve seen an engine boosted by a Garrett turbocharger.
Garrett has offered high performance turbochargers for the Mitsubishi Evolution since well before the car hit US soil, but with the release of the Evolution X Garrett offers kits to make a monster power Evo. Each of the Garrett turbo upgrade options for the Evo X are direct bolt-in units, so there is no need to change your downpipe or exhaust manifold, or worry about an exhaust system fitting properly after a turbo install. Also, the stock heat shields will fit over both of these turbochargers, giving you a sleeper look even with the hood open.
It is convenient that Garrett’s options let you use stock parts but the most important specification of these two turbo options are the power increase. The stock measurement of 291 horsepower, coupled with the Evolutions advanced AWD system makes it one of the quicker cars coming out of the showroom, but for those who have a real need for speed, Garrett has you covered. The first kit uses a GT3071R turbocharger and offers 475 horsepower and if that’s not enough for you, a step up to the GT3076R makes 525 horsepower. Both of these turbochargers use a 56 trim compressor wheel and a compressor housing A/R of 0.60 with a dual ball bearing system keeping things moving smoothly.
Garrett turbochargers have been one of the leading names in turbochargers throughout the boom of the import market in the United States and with the success of their recent kits with the Mitsubishi Evolution X they are sure to stay atop the industry.
